I personally think 'application' is difficult to apply to analytics and business intelligence. To me, it implies that all you have to do is provide data (configuration and customization are optional). For analytics, there is usually some work required for pre-processing and modeling. I wanted to be considerate of those facts (even as we work hard to lower these efforts).

I wholeheartedly agree on the difference between analytic infrastructure (where we've seen many products to date) and the solution layer (which has largely been dominated by consulting shops and custom, organic developments).

What do you think of the term 'applications' vs. solutions?
